This from Bill.
Hi folks, Happy New Year!
And its going to be if we continue to do what we began last year, like a lot of other communities in the world have, which is to act consciously in behalf our our ailing planet in all that we do and more importantly not do - ie consume too much. The weight of the world falls on each of us in our life style decisions.
Last month we were graced with the thoughtful presentation of Alice Warner in regards to our banking practices. Come prepared to discuss what changes you have made based on her input and the resources she gave us.
This month there will be two speakers providing us with information about electric vehicles (EV), Chris Chandler and Paul Reno. As EV's are the wave of the future, there is lots to know and be excited about. I have already become a convert and am now driving a Chevy Bolt EV - and love it. (I'll let you go for a test drive if you like).
Leland wants us to know that the next meeting of the Pollinator Restoration Project will be on Feb. 3rd at 11am in the Umpqua Bank in Waldport. She has also designed the new rendition of the Declaration on Human Rights and Climate Change which we hope to unveil on the 7th.
Our meeting will be held at it's usual time and place which is the first Sunday of each month (Jan 7th) in the South Beach Community Center at 3 to 5 pm. All are welcome, so bring neighbors and friends.
Dorothy wants you to know that the Plastic Pollution Committee will be meeting immediately after our regular 350ooc meeting.
Given the negative and destructive nature of our current federal administration many folks are suffering from a kind of depression that leaves them with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. I have found, like many, that even a small amount of participation in organizations and actions such as ours at 350occ is a wonderful panacea which not only re-energizes but brings the blessings of hope back, because when we act we know for sure something positive is happening to bring about the change needed to heal the earth. Every day this number is expanding exponentially as the silence and denial of climate change is evaporating into a worldwide effort to bring environmental justice and healing action into the forefront of our societies.
I look forward to seeing you all and am thankful to all your contributions. Like the Dalai Lama has said mediation and prayer are good but it is action that brings about change in real time. So like Gandhi has said "be the change you want to see happen"
