This from Bill Kucha.
Here is Micheal's letter.
Seems his pdf file has disappeared - sorry. More info on this can be found at 350eugene.org or 350pdx.org.
Bill
I have attached the Clean Energy talking points (formatted as FAQ?s) that I wrote specifically to try and appeal to rural and conservative voters. I plan to use them in our audacious attempt to see if we can get a few Republicans to support CEJ-SB1070. As I mentioned, Sen Dembrow said that would be one of the most useful things we could do to help that bill get passed.
Regarding Sen Roblan, I will discuss it will Bill Kucha at tomorrow?s 350NW meeting. I will suggest to him that we round up some constituents again and get on Roblan?s calendar before the short session starts. As you know, Jordan Cove is the big elephant in the room for that district. Any discussion with him about CEJ would probably involve Jordan Cove. I?m trying to craft an argument that incorporates some of the general talking points (attached) together with some specifics about the very significant offshore wind opportunities around Coos Bay. The central theme would be that Jordan Cove is a basically unsound investment in a sunset industry with limited job potential. At the same time, Coos Bay is ideally suited to take advantage of the tremendous offshore wind potential that inhabits the Oregon coast. DOE estimated that the US Pacific coast has the offshore wind potential of an astronomical 245 gigawatts, enough to power 55 million to 73 million homes.
I know that Sen Roblan was involved with the COOS BAY WINDFLOAT project several years ago. That project failed for various reasons. Since then offshore technology has improved significantly, costs have dropped and offshore projects are being built in Europe and the US east coast. Other pieces are falling into place also. Now is the perfect time for Oregon to grab this opportunity before it goes somewhere else. I hope to be able to help him see that offshore wind has better prospects for his district than Jordan Cove and it also goes hand-in-hand with CEJ.
