South Beach Community Center on August 6 from 3 to 5.
I'm forwarding this for Bill Kucha
Hi Folks,
As we aren't meeting this month I thought it would be good to check in and see what everybody is doing or thinking about in regards to 350cc.
I, along with Bill Montgomery, have been canvasing for business endorsement for Or. HB2135. Now that the legislative session is over, HB2135 has become tabled, as it was never voted on. However there is another HB in the making which will be similar to 2135. These efforts to limit and eventually do away with carbon emissions from large industry and power plants will be an ongoing project until what we want is achieved-NO MORE CARBON released in our precious atmosphere. So we will continue to gather names of business owners who support creating cleaner air. These are compiled in a data base (through the efforts of RENEW OREGON who we are in coalition with) to be eventually and regularly shown to our legislators who are impressed by these types of endorsements. At our next meeting I will be doing a mini workshop at the end of our gathering (10 minutes) for those interested.
I have been attending 350 meetings in PDX and found a wonderful speaker ( a certified Al Gore trainer in these matters of climate). She will becoming to our September meeting, which, due to Labor Day, won't be our usual first Sunday - to be announced. Also I brought up the exciting work of Tom Kerns (one of our 350cc members) with the Permanent Peoples Tribunal and the Human Rights Declaration and looks like along with us they what to hear more and hopefully participate. This is news to you Tom, which I assume you will be thrilled with. Yes? Tom will be speaking at our next meeting to further explain how those of us who want to can proceed in getting The Declaration in our city halls.
I'm hoping to initiate at our next meeting a membership drive. So please try to make it in order be included in a group picture of us, which I will use in an article about our existence and work here on the central Oregon coast. Actually I would like some assistance in the writing of it, as well for that matter, in the running of our 350cc.
Along those lines, I should like to mention the diligent hard and work of Bob Southwood, one of our members, who has create our 350cc.org Facetime presence. Which by the way, at least according to thumbs up polls, isn't being used much, So if your are using it, please take the time to let us know. As a matter of fact, just today Bob posted an article derived from the New York Magazine dealing with the dire state of our planet.
I strongly recommend you read this on our Facebook or find it online at nymag.com. The article is called The Uninhabitable Earth. I have never come across such a comprehensive assessment of our present day predicament with climate change.
So let me hear from you. Actually, you may want to wait a day or two (I'll let you know when), because thanks again to Bob's efforts, we will have an interactive website with a forum on which we can converse with one an other along with all sorts of other resources to grow by and heal with. Thanks Bob!
Speaking of resources, I have finished reading the book 'Drawndown' gifted to us by Michael Mittion from 350PDX and can pass it on -let me know. I Strongly recommend it.
Best to you all, Bill
