This from Bill.
> Hello 350 members and friends,
I have recently been re-evaluating and re-imagining my role in 350 OCC. My initial intention in founding 350 was to gather together like-minded people in our community to encourage and facilitate their activism in regards to climate disruption.
After a year as organizer and chair I am eager to focus more on direct action. I have identified several projects and priorities on which I am looking forward to working. After a year of working together, I believe this might be the right time for us to have a non-hierarchical structure. We would continue working toward addressing climate disruption, each of us pursuing our own goals and interests. There would be no chair and no regularly scheduled meetings. Everyone would be free to create their own committee and be its chair, inviting others to join, scheduling meetings, making agendas and planning actions. As committees we can communicate through emails and share our work on a Facebook community page with a calendar of events.
Social interaction and conversation are important, renewing and fun. We need each other to encourage and sustain our spirits. Therefore, I suggest having occasional social gatherings might be fun and necessary, perhaps twice yearly. Let?s stay in touch about scheduling these.
In the meantime there will be a July 1st meeting in the South Beach Community Center at 3 PM. A troupe of activists from 350PDX have created a short play that deals with fracking and the proposed LNG Pipeline and Terminal in Coos Bay followed by a workshop that will assist in writing comments to the DEQ and Army Corps of Engineers to oppose its construction. See attachment for more information. This will be a fun and informative event and I hope all will be able to attend.
In Unity,
Bill
